Common ATO STP Errors in Reckon GovConnect
ID: 5749 Category: GovConnect STP Status: Resolved Views: 413

Question:
Please see below a list of common ATO errors you may receive after lodging an STP submission.

Solution:

Error: An unexpected error has occurred, try again. if problem persists, contact the ATO. Error code {Code}

Error: An unexpected error has occurred. Please contact the Tax Office.

This error occurs when in the "Company Info and Adviser" section where the Adviser's ABN is entered incorrectly, or the tax agent number entered is not linked to the ABN provided. Please ensure the ABN and tax agent info is entered correctly, then try submitting again as normal.

If the above section is checked and everything is correct, please contact the ATO about this further as it's an error on their side.

Error: The element 'AddressDetailsPostal' in namespace 'http://www.sbr.gov.au/ato/payevnt' has invalid child element 'CountryC' in namespace 'http://www.sbr.gov.au/ato/payevnt'. List of possible elements expected: 'Line1T' in namespace 'http://www.sbr.gov.au/ato/payevnt'. Hint: while processing parent element [AddressDetailsPostal] child mandatory element [Line1T] was expected but not found

If you have never had a successful STP submission - please check the company's address + all employee's addresses. Ensure there are no special characters in address fields and that every employee has a postcode with 4 digits (no more or no less).

If you had successful submissions before this, is there a new employee(s) compared to other submissions? If so, check their address. If nothing is different from the last successful lodgement, simply try submitting again as normal. The ATO sometimes returns this error when they have problems processing on their end.

Error message: The element 'Payroll' in namespace 'http://www.sbr.gov.au/ato/payevnt' has invalid child element 'Amendment' in namespace 'http://www.sbr.gov.au/ato/payevnt'. List of possible elements expected: 'InteractionTransactionId' in namespace 'http://www.sbr.gov.au/ato/payevnt'. Hint: while processing parent element [Payroll] child mandatory element [InteractionTransactionId] was expected but not found.

This means that before exporting out your JSON file you have ticked either the box 'Update Event' or 'Full File Replacement' but there was no previous submission to update/replace. Please complete the submission again without selecting one of those options before exporting.

Error message: Your nomination with the software provider does not contain the correct Software ID in Access Manager. To resolve, please log on to Access Manager (AUSkey required), select 'my nominated software provider' and update the nomination, or call the ATO. You will need provide the following details: Software provider name and/or their ABN and Software ID.

This means you have not registered your software ID correctly with the ATO. If you need to register your software ID over the phone with the ATO - please call 1300 852 232.

AND/OR

If you have "Adviser" details entered in your GovConnect "Company & Adviser" section - the "Adviser" can only lodge STP. This means they need to register the software ID and also link the client to themselves in the Tax Agent Portal. If the client wishes to lodge STP - the "Adviser" will need to remove their details.

Error: ETP payment date must be in the same financial year as the Pay/Update Date

If any employees were terminated please check their "release or terminated date" - this date must be in the same financial year that you are reporting the STP submission for.

Error: The value specified for an item does not match the item type (value = "xxx", item type = String, uniqueID = http://www.sbr.gov.au/ato/payevnt:PostcodeT) Hint: The Pattern constraint failed.

This error means that the company OR an employee has a postcode which is not four (4) digits. The value is in the error is what's currently set in either the company's or employee's postcode field. Please correct the postcode so it's four (4) digits then upload and submit the STP submission again.
