Why am I getting “Printer not activated, Error -20” when I’m trying to send an email 


Getting 'Reckon Accounts PDF Generation Message' with problem 'Reckon Accounts could not save your ... as a PDF file', when Saving as PDF from Reckon Accounts Business.



The issue generally occurs when the Windows OS does an update/upgrade to itself, which causes a failure for Amyuni PDF driver to function correctly.

Reckon Accounts uses Amyuni PDF drivers provided by Amyuni technologies for creating the PDF files when sending emails. As advised by Amyuni in their publications , the major cause of the issue is, windows update failing to update the HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software registry key. Amyuni PDF Converter uses this key to store its internal settings and fails after an operating system update.

Who does this apply to?

All Reckon Accounts Business users. Any year/versions

Solution / Workaround:

The resolution advised needs an Administrator level access to the system.

Solution 1: Close and re-open RAB. (Try saving as PDF again)

Solution 2: Restart the computer. (Try saving as PDF again)

Solution 3: Manually change the permission in registry settings.

Note: The steps detailed below is just to highlight the steps which is already in the link provided above by Amyuni.

i) Go to the start menu and type’ Regedit’ in the search box, but do not hit Enter yet or select it.

ii) You should see Regedit.exe in the search results, right click on it and select “Run as Administrator”.


iii) You will now get to Registry editor. Scroll down to the HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG key. Expand the key and right click on Software key.


iv) Select Permissions.

v) Select the Users (YourPCName\your username) and tick allow on the Full Control


vi) Click OK and close the registry editor.

Solution 4 : Uninstall and reinstall Amyuni PDF drivers.

Please refer to KB 5638 for detailed instruction.

Now try emailing from Reckon Account again.
