File not backed up, when I backup my Quicken file.
ID: 2680 Category: Accounts - Personal Range (previously Quicken) Status: Resolved Views: 2397

Question:

When creating a backup of my Quicken file, why do I receive the error?

File not backed up.

Solution:

This error message is a benign error as the file is backed up.  It will occur where the name of the file is longer than 8 characters, includes non-alphanumeric characters (!, @, #, -), or has spaces. Some systems may experience intermittent issues when trying to copy file names in this format.

To resolve this issue, rename your file and then try the backup again:
 1. From the Quicken File menu, choose File Operations, and then choose Rename.
 2. In the Rename Quicken File window, select the file.
 3. Enter a new name for the file in the New Name for Quicken File field. Make sure that the new name is less than eight characters long, does not contain any non-alphanumeric characters, or spaces.

4. Click OK.
