QuickBooks PDF problems on 64-bit Windows Operating Systems when emailing or reconciling

Question:

Why do I get the error: ' Could not print to printer. Check your printer selection. Printing may have been cancelled from another program'?





Solution:

Users should follow Stage 1.  If the problem persists then continue with Stage 2.


To successfully complete these steps you do need to have full access rights (Administrator privileges) to this computer. 


Accounts Business 2014 users please note:


The PDF Converter is called Reckon Accounts V4 PDF Converter and is already set to its own unique port (RA2014Port).  You can skip Stage 1 and go directly to Stage 2.


 


Stage 1 – Set the QuickBooks PDF Converter to a unique printer port



  1. Close Accounts Business;
  2. Open the Devices and Printers window;

    1. Right-click on the QuickBooks PDF Converter

                                         i.    Accounts Business 2013:  QuickBooks V4 PDF Converter


                                        ii.    QuickBooks 2012-13 and earlier:  QuickBooks V303 PDF Converter


and view the printer queue.  Delete items in the queue then close the window.




    1. Close the Devices and Printers window;

  1. Delete the QuickBooks printer files – QBprint.qbp and wpr.ini:

Accounts Business 2013




    1. Windows 8, 7 & Vista

                                          i.    Go to C:\Program Data\Intuit\ReckonAcoounts 2013\ and delete QBPRINT.QBP;


                                         ii.    Go to C:\Program Data\Intuit\Quickbooks 2013\ and delete WPR.INI;


If you cannot see C:\Program Data then it is hidden.  To unhide it click on Organize > Folder and Search Options > View > and in the Advanced Settings box, under Hidden files and folders, click on the radio button Show hidden files, folders and drives.


b.    Windows XP: 


                                              i.        C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\         Intuit\ReckonAccounts 2013\ and delete QBPRINT.QBP;


                                             ii.        C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\         Intuit\QuickBooks 2013\ and delete WPR.INI;


Quickbooks 2012-13 and earlier


b.    Windows 8, 7 & Vista: 


C:\Program Data\Intuit\QuickBooks 2012-13\ and delete QBPRINT.QBP and WPR.INI;


If you cannot see C:\Program Data then it is hidden.  To unhide it click on Organize > Folder and Search Options > View > and in the Advanced Settings box, under Hidden files and folders, click on the radio button Show hidden files, folders and drives.


c.    Windows XP: 


C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ Intuit\ QuickBooks 2012-13\ and delete QBPRINT.QBP and WPR.INI;


4.    Open the Devices and Printers window again;




    1. right click your QuickBooks PDF Converter > Printer Properties > Ports tab > Add Port button;

                                          i.    Select Local Port and click the New Port button;


                                         ii.    In the Enter a port name field, enter Accounts PDF Printer, click OK, and then click Close;


                                        iii.    Be sure that the Accounts PDF Printer port is selected in the Ports list and click Apply;




    1. Click the Advanced tab:

                                          i.    Click on Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster;


                                         ii.    Clear the checkbox labelled Enable advanced printing features;


                                        iii.    Click on Print directly to printer;


                                       iv.    Click the Driver drop-down arrow and select:


1.    Accounts Business 2013: Amyuni Document Converter 400;


2.    Quickbooks 2012-13 and earlier:  Amyuni Document Converter 300;


c.    Click Apply and then click OK;



  1. Right-click the Windows taskbar and choose Task Manager;

    1. Click the Processes tab;
    2. Select splWOW64.exe and click the End Process button:

§  Windows 8, 7 and Windows Vista: Click End Process in the warning window;


§  Windows XP: Click Yes in the warning window;



  1. Close all applications and restart the computer.
  2. Right-click your QuickBooks / Accounts Business desktop icon and select Properties > Compatibility:

    1. Accounts Business 2013:  Under Privilege Level, tick the box Run this program as an administrator;

b.    QuickBooks 2012-13 and earlier:


                                          i.    Tick the box Run this program in compatibility mode for:


                                         ii.    Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) from the dropdown menu;


                                        iii.    Under Privilege Level, tick the box Run this program as an administrator;




    1. Click Apply and OK to save and close.

  1. , launch Accounts Business and test printing and emailing. 

 


 


Stage 2


If Stage 1 has not resolved your issue you will need to continue with the following suggestions.  Start with the first and continue until your issue is resolved. 


 


Step 1:  Reset the Reckon Accounts / QuickBooks PDF Converter


1.    Close QuickBooks/Accounts Business;


2.    Start > Devices and Printers;


a.    Right-click Reckon Accounts V4PDF Converter or QuickBooks V4 (or V303) PDF Converter and select Set as default printer;


b.    You will receive a Warning box with an Asterisk symbol – click on it;


c.    Click on the option to Fix;


d.    When the process finishes set the QuickBooks V4 (or V303) PDF Converter as the default printer – see Step 2a;


3.    Now set your normal printer as default – see Step 2a;


4.    Close the Devices and Printers module


Attempt sending an email from QuickBooks/Accounts Business again. 


 


Step 2:  Reset the Windows default printer settings


1.    Start > type regedit in the Search field and select regedit.exe from the list;


2.    Backup the Registry by




    1. Windows 7 & Vista: Start button > type regedit into the search box > Enter;
    2.  Windows XP: Start button > Run > type regedt32 > Enter;

 If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.




    1. On the top menu line, click on File >Export
    2. Select a location to save the file and in the File Name box enter a name;
    3. In the Export Range section, click on All;
    4. Click Save.

3.    Go to HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\ (if the Windows key doesn't exist, create a new key).


4.    Export this key to the desktop (for safety reasons)


5.    Then check for the Device string value (create it if it is not there)


Also you may have to give the user account full control over the Device key to make this change


6.    Give it the value: winspool,Ne00 (if there is anything else there, change it to this value.)


7.    Press OK to save that value.  Close the Registry.


8.    In Devices & Printers you will now notice there is no default printer set.  Set your preferred printer as the default printer.


9.    Open QuickBooks and email an invoice.  The printer window will no longer come up (if it does or if you get a different error like error -41 go back follow KB ID 4546 again).


 


Step 3:  Check for PDF Converter conflict with older versions of QBi


Do you have multiple QuickBooks PDF Converters?


1.    Click the Windows Start button and select:


·         Windows 8 & 7:  Devices and Printers.


·         Windows Vista:  Printer.


·         Windows XP: Printers and Faxes.


2.    If you see only one QuickBooks PDF Converter you have finished with this step.  If you have more than one QuickBooks PDF converter, continue. 


 


To proceed, Windows 7, Vista and XP users must be logged in as the built-in Administrator (Windows 8 is already running in built-in Administrator mode).


1.    Click on Start, then  All Programs, then Accessories, then right click Command Prompt and left click Run as administrator;


2.    Type in the following command: 


net user administrator /active:yes


(When you have finished the following steps successfully, turn off the built-in administrator by typing:  


net user administrator /active:no)


 


3.    Right-click the latest QuickBooks PDF converter (QuickBooks V4 PDF Converter, then V303, then QuickBooks PDF Converter) and choose


·         Windows 7:  See what’s printing.


·         Windows Vista & XP:  Open.


a.    If there are items in the print queue, clear the queue, then close the window.


b.    Right-click on the latest QuickBooks PDF Converter


·         Windows7:  select Remove Device.


·         Windows Vista & XP:  select Delete. 


c.    Right-click on the other QuickBooks PDF Converters and view the printer queue.  Delete items in the queue then close the window.  Now choose to delete the QuickBooks PDF Converter. 


d.    Close the Devices and Printers window.


4.    Delete the QuickBooks printer files – QBprint.qbp and wpr.ini:


Accounts Business 2013 and later


a.    Windows 8, 7 & Vista


                                          i.    Go to C:\Program Data\Intuit\ReckonAccounts 2013\ and delete QBPRINT.QBP;


                                         ii.    Go to C:\Program Data\Intuit\Quickbooks 2013\ and delete WPR.INI;


If you cannot see C:\Program Data then it is hidden.  To unhide it click on Organize > Folder and Search Options > View > and in the Advanced Settings box, under Hidden files and folders, click on the radio button Show hidden files, folders and drives.


e.    Windows XP: 


                                              i.        C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\         Intuit\ReckonAccounts 2013\ and delete QBPRINT.QBP;


                                             ii.        C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\         Intuit\QuickBooks 2013\ and delete WPR.INI;


Quickbooks 2012-13 and earlier


b.    Windows 8, 7 & Vista: 


C:\Program Data\Intuit\QuickBooks 2012-13\ and delete QBPRINT.QBP and WPR.INI;


If you cannot see C:\Program Data then it is hidden.  To unhide it click on Organize > Folder and Search Options > View > and in the Advanced Settings box, under Hidden files and folders, click on the radio button Show hidden files, folders and drives.


c.    Windows XP: 


C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ Intuit\ QuickBooks 2012-13\ and delete QBPRINT.QBP and WPR.INI;


5.    Go to the Accounts Business / QuickBooks installation directory.  The default directory is:


Accounts Business 2013: C:\Program Files x86\Intuit\ReckonAccounts 2013\


Quickbooks 2012-13 and earlier: C:\Program Files x86\Intuit QuickBooks 2010-11\.


(See Additional Note below if you cannot locate your installation directory)


                     i.        Find install.exe and double left-click to run it.  Wait while the white text scrolls through the black window.  When finished, close all Windows.


                    ii.        Open the Devices and Printers window, right-click Amyuni Document Converter 400 (300 for 2012-13 and earlier) and:


                                          i.    Windows 7:  select Printer Properties, then Rename


                                         ii.    Windows Vista and XP: select Rename


                   iii.         And enter either:


                                          i.    For Accounts Business: QuickBooks V4 PDF Converter


                                         ii.    QuickBooks 2010/11 or later:  QuickBooks V303 PDF Converter


                                        iii.    QuickBooks 2009/10 and earlier:  QuickBooks PDF Converter


**Note** The file must be renamed exactly as shown here, including spaces.


                   iv.        Close the Devices and Printers window


 


Turn off the built-in administrator, restart your PC and launch Accounts Business / QuickBooks and test PDF functionality in the following order:



  • Open any Report in QuickBooks 2010/11 and email it. 
  • Open a Tax Invoice, select a Quicken Standard Template and email the invoice.
  • Open a Tax Invoice, change the Template to your desired template and email it; it should email successfully.

 


Additional Note


To find the location of your installation directory:


·         right-click the QuickBooks 2010-11 desktop icon and select Properties;


·         read the location in the Target box;


·         click on Open File Location to open to the installation directory in Windows Explorer.
